The Appalachian Trail
begins in the North Georgia Mountains as it winds its way
northward towards Maine. Here in the Chattahoochee National
Forest, only an hours drive from our home, we have access
to this famous trail.
We began at Woody's Gap near
Delonega and walked beyond Blood Mountain
on a three day trip with our neighbors.
It is a beautiful hike through
hardwoods, Mountain Laurel, ferns and a profusion of wild
flowers.
In camp everyone pitches in to
gather firewood....even Huck Finn, our Lab....
and an ingenious method had to
be devised to dry the little girl's shoes after they could
not resist wading in the creek to cool off.
(by-the-way, now we know why
they call that place "Blood Mtn."......
there are vampire gnats, and ticks!....no kidding)
