Page 14, "Wanna fly, you got to give up the stuff that weights you down":

I love this line from a Toni Morrison book and thought it felt at home in my altered book. I have to admit that Morrison used another word that begins with "s" which I took the liberty of changing to "stuff". Not that I didn't like her original word, but I needed to keep my altered book family-friendly, if you know what I mean. Pieces of magic-mesh were stuck on and then the left page was stamped and the right page was washed with walnut ink. Bits of torn paper added more color. The quote was printed on clear acetate and attached with brads. I printed the words: fear, stress, anger, worry, guilt, on acetate, and dropped them all into a little bag I had saved from a wedding (you know, the kind they use to hold the rice), then I tossed in a bit of dried lavender (to me that symbolized the sweetening or softening of those harsh words sealed up in the bag).
